Canggu is a popular spot in Bali, featuring beautiful beaches, warm waters, and plenty of surfing opportunities. The area offers a good mix of locals and tourists. Canggu is notably popular among digital nomads, so you'll find many Ukrainians and Russians working remotely here.
Surfers take advantage of the waves both in the morning and evening. Numerous companies offer lessons for new surfers.
Around 4 PM, people begin to gather on the beach to enjoy the sunset, accompanied by some music.
Near Death Experience: On my last day in Canggu, I encountered a near-death experience. As usual, I went to the beach in the morning to relax and swim. I waded into the ocean, where my feet touched the floor and my head was above water. When I decided to return to shore, I followed the waves pushing me towards the beach, but despite swimming, I wasn't getting any closer. The undertow was strong, and I realized my feet were no longer touching the ground. I tried swimming a few times, but the shore didn't seem any nearer. I attempted to stay calm and float, but it wasn't working. I started shouting for help to catch the attention of distant surfers, but it seemed no one noticed. A thought crossed my mind: Should I keep trying to swim or just give up? I felt like this might be what dying in the ocean is like—not much pain, but a stomach full of water. Yet, I continued to yell for help. This time, I saw a surfer approaching, which gave me some relief and hope to stay afloat. Eventually, two surfers came to my rescue and helped me onto their surfboard. They brought me back to the beach, and I was incredibly grateful for their assistance.
