Kazbegi is located approximately 155 kilometers away from Tbilisi, nestled amidst verdant mountains and in proximity to the Russian border. A mini bus ride from Didube Metro station in Tbilisi to the town takes about 3 hours and costs around 15 GEL (or 500 Rupees). The journey offers picturesque views of the mountains, making it a delightful experience for motorcycle enthusiasts. Interestingly, you may come across some cows leisurely strolling on the road, reminiscent of the sight of cows on Indian roads, as depicted in the photos below.
Kazbegi is a quaint town that offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with locals and unwind in nature. The homes feature spacious front and backyards brimming with fruit and vegetable trees, as well as livestock. I have a great fondness for these kinds of homes where residents rely on the land for their livelihood.
The primary tourist attraction is the Holy Trinity Cathedral, constructed in the 14th century. Additional details about the cathedral can be accessed here It is recommended to spend some time indoors to participate in the prayers rather than solely capturing photographs. Luckily, photography is permitted inside the cathedral. While one can rent a car from the city to reach here, it is also possible to hike to the church in approximately 1 1/2 hours.
If you enjoy hiking, there are numerous trails to explore in the Kazbegi mountains. I highly recommend nature enthusiasts to spend 1 or 2 nights there for hiking and enjoying the surroundings, which can be especially enjoyable for families with children.
The accommodation here is also very reasonable where the prices ranged from 2000 to 3000 rupees (50-70 GEL). I stayed at Guest house Tamta which i think is the best place to stay as you can overlook the huge mountains and Cathedral in between. You can see the pictures below:
The first time I tried Lamb Kinkheli, a traditional dish from Georgia, as well as Lamb Kebab. It was the best food I have had in Georgia up to now.
