Due to a shoulder injury preventing me from practicing my art, I opted to take a brief trip to visit some temples in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, my parents urged me to visit these temples, as they believe my personal life is not going smoothly :). You understand how Indian parents are :). I must agree that one should take a month off to see all the amazing temples of Tamil Nadu for its architecture, story telling and rituals. Human first civilization, Dravedian civilization, started in Tamil Nadu region so it is worth a spend some time to learn the history of this historic spiritual place.
During my travel, I opted for a train journey from Warangal to Kumbakonum, which lasted 18 hours. The lengthy train ride was not comfortable, prompting me to consider taking a flight as an alternative in return. However, flying would have required multiple transfers to reach the city. I chose to use intercity buses to travel between the cities, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The city buses in Tamil Nadu play music and are adorned with colorful lights at night, creating a pilgrimage-like atmosphere. On my return journey, I decided to fly back as I preferred not to endure another long train ride. I hope that India will introduce fast trains in the near future, as flights can be quite inconvenient.
Kumbakonam is a significant temple town with numerous temples located throughout the city. During my visit, I mainly explored Adhi Kumbeswarar Temple, Sri Sarangapani Temple, Nageshwara Temple, and Thirumananacheri Temple.
Thanjavur - Most of these cities were under the rule of the Chola kingdom, known for constructing vast temples that covered extensive land areas. I was fascinated by the intricate architectural details and the stories associated with these temples. I visited Brihadeeswara temple and spent over 2 hours checking out the place. This is the best temple I felt as it was not painting with various colors but still showcasing original stone of the gopuram.
Trichy - I traveled by bus from Thanjavur to Trichy on the same day. Despite arriving late, I rested well and then visited Sri Ranganatha temple, Jhambukeswarar temple, and Rockfort Ganesha temple. Unfortunately, photography was not permitted inside Jhambukeswarar temple, which I consider to be the most beautiful temple in Trichy. Nevertheless, I observed some tourists still attempting to take photos with their phones.
Rockfork Ganesha temple:
Trichy new airport is really nice and very close to the main road. Loved the details of its interior.
